One wallet for every agent

Stripe

Stripe Link is the payment layer for Muse, Instinct, Grok Bot, and OpenClaw. The agent pays with the user's saved method, or with a single-use virtual card at any merchant.

Payment is the step where most agent products used to hand the task back to the person. In September 2026, the consumer agents from Meta (Muse), Spear Street (Instinct), and xAI (Grok Bot) all launched with the same answer: Stripe Link.

Just booked plane tickets via Muse. Never going back.

Link for agents seems to be live in Canada now! Just successfully connected it to my Instinct & Grok Bot

How it works

At merchants that accept Link, the agent pays with the user’s saved method. At every other merchant, Link issues a single-use virtual card for that purchase. The user approves each total in the chat. The merchant sees a normal card payment.

Browserbase showed the same thing for custom agents: a Link CLI plus a browser session, one prompt, and the agent “can now natively make payments on the web” (@pk_iv).

Why this is good AX

  • The merchant does not have to build anything. A virtual card works at any checkout that takes a card.
  • The user keeps control. One approval per purchase, a spend limit, and a card that dies after one use.
  • The agent vendor does not hold card numbers.

Where it still breaks

The same week, Stripe’s Jeff Weinstein asked where agents still cannot transact. The 63 replies name the limits:

  • Link could not pay a restaurant deposit in euros, or a UK merchant in pounds.
  • The NYC parking portal refuses virtual cards. 3-D Secure does not start.
  • Merchants that accept only Venmo, or that quote a price by phone.

Payment friction is now rare in the data (18 of 824 reports). In most failed tasks, the agent never reaches checkout. It stops at a bot block or a login. See Bot block with no agent path.
